War Crimes Investigations ‘must’ be held, insists NPC CM in Mullivaikkal
The Government is trying to evade the War Crimes Investigation. Sinhala people also want to do the same. Even some of our own people want to do like that. The Government is gearing up to allow the perpetrators to escape instead of punishing them. Contrary to this everyone should come forward to fight for justice. Just Sinhala leadership also should give their cooperation in this matter. Insisting that the International community should be firm in this, the NPC CM,C.V.Wigneswaran, also said that, for the souls of our people killed to rest in peace the War Crimes investigation should be held.
He said the above, participating in the commemorative event for people who were killed in the final stage of the war.
We are remembering today, tragic events of the final war of 2009 may, which grabbed the lives without discrimination of males, females, aged or disabled.
Although our beloved Bishop Rt.Rev. Rayappu Joseph declared with evidence that, more than one hundred and forty thousand of our people were killed at that time, No official action was taken to find out in a due way, who were killed, what are their particulars and how did they got killed.
Crying is an activity which lightens the heavy mind. Those who prevent that are sans human nature. Today the usually heavy stringency had subsided. It is delighting to see that the government elected by us is at least acting with an understanding of our mind set in this matter.
A slow pace is observable as far as war crimes investigation is concerned. 8 months have passed from the adoption of the resolution related to this in the UNHRC. The government had not taken any constructive action to conduct the war Crimes Investigation. But, for political reasons, several countries are now saying that if we forget about the war crimes, they will get us Federal system.
They are talking without taking into mind some seriousness of the crimes committed at the last stages of the war. If they are in the knowledge regarding the tribulations of the affected, they would not have come forward to speak about such exchanges. If the souls of our killed people to rest in peace, war crimes investigations should be held, he said.
