Jaffna to get the excess water discharged into sea from Irranaimadu

A decision was taken yesterday in the Coordinating Committee to bring all excess water discharged into sea from Iranaimadu during rainy seasons. A review of the sector wise progress in water distribution of water was held in the CC meeting. Water supply from Iranaimadu also was taken up during this meeting.

NPC member Arnold said that excess water is being discharged into sea from Iranaimadu during rainy seasons and a decision should be taken to implement a scheme in this regard.

NPC Member Sivajilingam said that the solution for drought period also should be indicated and went on to suggest obtaining drinking water from sea water at Maruthankerny during drought season.

NPC Member Sugirthan said that the Maruthankerny proposal had run into opposition the decision could be taken without indicating location. Sivajilingam opposed this proposition and the Co-Chair, Mawai Senathyrajah compromised to take a decision on Iranaimadu water and review about the drought period arrangement later.
