Cleavage in TNA – Government Relationship: TNA Decides to abstain from voting on FM
A cleavage had been formed in the relationship between the TNA and the Government. The lethargy, the government shows in doing things for the Tamils had been cited as the reason for the cleavage. To show its dissatisfaction, the TNA had decided not to support the Government during the vote of No-confidence against the Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake. As supporting the resolution will amounts to supporting Mahindha faction TNA had also decided not to support the resolution either.
There is no notable progress in the Good governance promises regarding re-settlement and release of political prisoners. The TNA was supporting the Government so far. Now for the first time the TNA is registering an indirect opposition. The final decision was taken in the meeting of its parliamentarians held yesterday.
