If the Army gets out completely, Police will look after our security: retorts Chief Minister Wigneswaran
Our problem is that the Army is staying here even after 7 years from the end of the war. They have taken our lands. They have taken our houses, using our resources, taken our business ventures. There is no security to our women. Mishaps had occurred because of the presence of the Army here. If they all go away from the North, the police will look after our security, said C.V.Wigneswaran , the CM.
He was speaking in the Sector wise meeting for Vavuniya,Mullaitheevu, Mannar Districts held at Asst. Commissioner of Local Government’s Office in Vavuniya, yesterday.
Elaborating further he said that, handing over jungles, lands and houses to the army, through fear of them, had caused affectations to the long term interest of our people. Some officers had decided that the taking over of the lands for public purposes Act is also applicable to the Army and had handed over lands to the army, as per their request, even after the end of the war. It is true that by doing so the friendship and benefits from them had been received by the officers. But we should never forget that by doing so we have betrayed our people.
The Spokesman of the Army Jayanath Jayaweera had recently said that, if the Army leaves the North mishaps will happen. Although we know all your past deeds we did not revenge you. We have always said that without becoming the victims of corruption to act in a pro-people manner. Please show interest in your legitimate duties and pay attention to pro-people activities, he said.
