All lands occupied by the army including Myliddy area should be released by the President who is to visit Jaffna on the 18th. He already gave the promise for it in January.If we are cheated this time also we will get into the streets and struggle, the Group for Myliddy Resettlement had informed the President.
It had further stated in a letter sent to him as follows:
” We went away from our lands hoping to return after a few weeks. If we know at that time that we will have to roam around as refugees for 26 years we would never had left our soil even if it means losing our lives.
We are people who live preserving our hereditary properties. We believe that you are aware how far we would be distressed without our native lands. In the 1990s we were living around Palaly. We never said it was a discomfort and we were not expelled on the guise of security.
You know the fertility of our soil. Hence, let us live in our own soil. We will act efficiently in Agriculture and Fisheries. We will generate income for the country.
You came to our welfare centre. You promised us that you will resettle us in our own soil. we belied your words like a Biblical promise and waiting for the last six months without engaging in any protest demonstrations.
When we undertook a fasting protest near Thellipalai Thurgathevi Temple, Ranil Wickremasinghe came and participated in our fast and promised that he will settle us in our own lands if he comes to power. In the context of Ranil Wickremasinghe who gave this promise is the Prime Minister and you the president, we are waiting with the hope that our lands will be released soon. You are to visit North soon. When you come we should be able hear the announcement that our lands had been released. IF not, we will get into the roads for the struggle for our lands.”
