Vali- North people shocked and disappointed on Maithri’s silence on resettlement in Jaffna
In the context of the expiry of date promised by President Maithri regarding our resettlement is to expire soon, we are highly shocked and disappointed by the silence of the President about our resettlement, while on his visit to Jaffna yesterday, said the President of Vali-North Resettlement and Rehabilitation Society,A.Kunabalasingam.
The President who visited the North for the Christmas day celebrations on December 21st last year promised that he will resettle people who were displaced from Valli- North and housed in welfare centres on their own lands within six month.
The deadline promised by the president is expiring on day after tomorrow, Tuesday. In this context the President Maithri visited Jaffna yesterday to declare open the Duraiyappa Stadium. He did not talk anything about resettlement
Kunabalasingam further said that “ We looked up President as an Angel. We hoped that he will not go back on his promise. Whether, in southern Sri Lanka or abroad, he was telling that, the Tamils are asking for their own lands. Hearing all these we thought that he will fulfill his promise. We also hope that he will release our lands or at least he will announce about release
All our hopes are smashed. We are shocked and disappointed, by this act of the President. If our lands are not released before the end of this month we have no other alternative but to take up struggle.”
