Attempt create Sinhala settlement in Vaharai, Batticaloa foiled : Yogeswaran, MP

The attempt by the Government to create Sinhala settlements in Vaharai area in Batticaloa District was prevented  said, MP, Seenithamby Yogeswaran.

Elaborating further, he said, in recent times attempts had been made by the government with the connivance of the Eastern Province Governor to establish Sinhala settlements in Eastern Province. Activities were undertaken to settle 178 Sinhala families in Vaharai.

These 178 families never lived in Vaharai. I have lived near this area and I know Vaharai for a long time.

I could confirm that these families never lived there. The attempts to settle them through encroachment had been prevented. 5 Sinhala families were living in Punanai area before 1985. Now 29 families had been settled there. This seems to be a deliberate act, he said.
