Weemankamam Pillaiyar kovil destroyed and Vihare constructed in its place
The Pillayar Temple of Weemankamam which was recently released from the control Armed Forces, had been destructed complexly and a Vihare had been constructed in its place, the All Ceylon Hindu Society has accused.
A press communique, issued by the society says that, Buddhist Vihares are being constructed in areas, which are densely populated by the Tamil people. This had caused much grief among Tamil people. The Society had pointed this out to leaders of the Tamil political parties. We complained to the president submitting photographic evidences. We have sent copies of this complaint to the Prime Minister, but no concrete action had been taken.
The Pillaiyar Temple in Weemankamam, which was a HSZ earlier, had been destroyed completely and a Buddhist vihare had been built in place of it. The Armed had not realized as to how far this act will hurt the hearts of the Tamil people. And the good governance Government had taken no action to stop this.
Every citizen has the right of worship, constitutionally, to follow any religion. Hence the Government should take suitable action to stop repetition of such acts and renovate places of worship which are found within released areas.
