Police should safeguard at least what is left over in the lands released by the Army
It was insisted in the Civil Defense Committee meeting that, the Police should take action to safeguard the left-over properties in the lands recently released by the Army in Valli- North.
The Civil Defense committee meeting for Jaffna District was held in the District Secretariat auditorium on the 8th of this month.
The buildings and furniture are demolished, and valuable trees are cut down and removed by unscrupulous persons from the land recently released by the Army in Vali-North. Police should take action to stop this, the committee was told.
Kankesanthurai Nadeswara Collge, Kurumbasiddy and Kadduvan areas were released recently for re-settlement. The houses and buildings which had survived the war are not there now. These building materials and trees are taken away by certain area people. This should stopped and action should be taken to safeguarded whatever that is left of the properties of the people to resettle, said Mrs. Ananthy Sasitharan.
The Northern Province Senior DIG said in reply that they have received complaints about this and a police post had been established and people entering the areas are recorded. However we cannot act too strictly regarding public who are coming to see their lands after 25 years. He also said action will be taken without hurting the public.
