Youth arrested in Jaffna by TID within two days, Police says AVA group

8 youth including one working in the office of the TNPF were arrested in Jaffna. The police is saying that they are from the AVA Group. TID has arrested them and taken them to Colombo. The Government has said that Gotabhaya Rajapakse is behind the AVA group. Gotabhaya has refuted the statement. Mahindha Rajapakse has commented that the AVA group was formed by former militants. The army has no connection,with the AVA group, said the State Minister for Defence. Thus, while  several such opinions are expressed in the South, 8 youths have been arrested by in two days in the North, within 2 days.

5 were arrested yesterday and 3 day before yesterday  under suspicion of having connection with the AVA Group.

Two brothers, E.Kapilosan (aged 22) and E.Niruson were arrested at their home in Inuvil, at around 5 a.m. , by the TID. They have also taken away their Hi-ace vehicle for inquiries. An Aunty of the two arrested persons and her son had seen the police removing the front part of the Van at Maruthanarmdam  and had questioned as to where they are taking the van. They had identified themselves as police officers, but the mother had removed the keys of the van hand it over to other police who came to the spot to control the unrest there. The son was taken to the police and assaulted.  Later they have arrested him also and taken to Colombo, the mother said.

Day before yesterday 3 were arrested, two first and third at the Office of TNPF, on information from the first two.
