Charges against 5 suspects of Chunnakam Police station murder of suspect case proved, case to be transferred to Jaffna High Court
In the case where, a suspect was tortured and killed in the Chunnakam Police Station the charges against 5 police officers have been proved on the basis of evidences given in the Kilinochchi court, that they have committed an offence, and hence the case will be transferred to Jaffna Courts for further action, said the Kilinochchi court.
Sumanan who was arrested on 21st of November 2011 on a theft case by Chunnakam Police had been tortured and murdered by 8 police Officers and the body was found floating in the Iranaimadu Tank. The case was closed as suicide. But on further inquiries in Chunnakam court it was found out that the suspect was really murdered 5 police officers including the then OIC Chinthika Bandara was charged with murder in the KIlinochchi court and they with three others were charged for torture in the Jaffna High court.
The postmortem report was read in the court, which said that although it was said that person had drowned in the tank 16 internal injuries and 6 external injuries were found on the dead body. After prosecution said that they are concluding the recording of witness and the defence saying that they are not submitting any witness the court announced that the case is being transferred to Jaffna High court for further action.
