We can’t live in model village. We will not accept alternate lands
We are not going to accept alternate lands for our lands occupied by the Army, said the people of Kepapulavu.
The Army, which had promised to release lands of half the families, also had said that it will not release the lands of the other half.
In this context, the Mulaitheevu District TNA MP, Shanthy Sriskantharasa met the owners of lands occupied by the Army and discussed their problems.
After the war ended the army had occupied lands of people and continuing to occupy them.
In this context the people undertook several struggles calling for the release of their lands. They also condemned Army calling women of the household to give false promises. They have said that they cannot live in model village and the Army should release all lands belonging to the people. Our Livelihood will be improved only if lands appropriate for fishing are released.
The people who said that they are not going to accept alternate lands and pointed out important structures like schools are inside the lands released so far.
