Jaffna Teaching Hospital creates Medical record: Bent spine of a girl straightened

The Jaffna teaching Hospital circles said that a girl afflicted with Scoliosis was operated on and bend in her spine was corrected. The bend spine of the girl has been straightened by operation performed on her and currently she is being treated in the ward they said.

This successful operation has been performed on a 14 year old girl, Sevanthy Seneviratne from Anuradhapura, it was reported. The Specialists of the Teaching Hospital said that this is a grand success.

Although the exact reason for Scoliosis has not been determined so far, it is generally accepted that gene disorders cause them.

The Hospital circles said that the child was operated on for 7 hours and it has given a great success to the hospital. This operation was performed in the new Operation Theatre on Thursday  with the integrated efforts of Orthopaedic Specialists, Anesthetists, Assisting Doctors, Attending Nursing Officers, X-ray Officers and other officers, Post-operation care Doctors, and the doctors Nurses and other officers now caring for the child in ward 17 are due for commendation. This Operation has brought much prestige to the hospital, they said.
