Mulikulam lands released by Navy & request 8 months to away from area including 27 houses
Land hitherto occupied by Navy were released yesterday. The Navy has asked for 8 months’ time to release a remaining area with 27 houses. The people are to enter the released area after religious observations today, it is reported.
In a context where the struggle undertaken by Mullikulam people demanding release of their lands occupied by the Navy, entering its 38th day yesterday, a high level discussion on releasing the lands of the people was held yesterday at around 1000 hrs at the Mulikulam Navy Camp.
In this meeting presided by the Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Raveendra, Musaly Divisional Secretary, S.ketheeswaran, TNA MPs, Selvam Adaikalanathan, Charles Nirmalanathan, Mannar Diocese Vicar General, Antony Victor and the President of the Mannar District Catholic Federation, Anton Punithanayagam participated in this meeting.
Discussion on releasing the lands of the people. The navy immediately released around 200 acre, but requested 8 months time to release the area enclosing 27 houses.
The news of the release of the land was broken to the people by the Navy Commander and the people’s representatives. People have decided to enter the lands after offering a mass at the Mullikulam Church, it is learnt.
