Rally in Pungudutheevu demanding that the Vidya-rape-murder case be heard in Jaffna
An attention drawing rally was held yesterday condemning the attempts to transfer the Vidya – Rape- Murder case to Colombo and demanding that the case be heard in Jaffna. The case was heard in Pungudutheevu Magistrate court and the suspects had been remanded by HC, Jaffna.
In this context some Political Forces are attempting to take the case to Colombo and to distract the case, said the protesters.
We have all the faith in the HC Jaffna where several just sentences had been delivered. We strongly believe that justice will be delivered in the HC, Jaffna they further said.
We have no resources to travel to Colombo for the case. For God’s sake, conduct the trial in Jaffna, said the mother of Vidya in tears,
Discussion regarding Trial-at- Bar
A high level meeting is to be held in Colombo on Monday regarding, undertaking the Vidya case in a Trial –at-Bar method, it is learnt. Suggestion had been made to Judicial Services Commission to hold the Trial-at-bar at Colombo.
Memorandum to Chief Justice to Appoint Tamil Judges for Vidya’s case.
A memorandum had been sent to the Chief justice requesting that, Tamil High Court judges should be appointed to the Trial-at-Bar tribunal to hear the Vidya Murder case” and ” The inquiries should be held in Jaffna.”
This memorandum had been handed over to the Governor Hon. Reginold Cooray yesterday.
