500 Bikkus in Jaffna & Police on alert for disturbances

500 Buddhist monks who came to Jaffna yesterday from the south offered special prayers at Nainatheevu Nagavihare.

These monks who came from Kurunegalla area rested at “Thal Sevena” rest house operated by the Army, then proceeded to Nainatheevu Nagavihare and held all night special pooja there.

This special Pooja was scheduled to be held in Navatkuli Vihare last week. However the after continuous media covarge was given in local news media, the Chief monk of the Navatkuli refusing to give permission, fearing some unfavourable situation, it was held in Nainatheevu.

This group including 350 male monks and 150 female monks, will worship at Jaffna Naga Vihare and Navatkuli vihare, it is learnt.
