Systematic Destroyal of Historical Monuments at Odduchuddan

Two hills in Mulaitheevu District with traditional history are being systematically destroyed. Granite stones are being blasted from Waveddy and Kodythooky hills and systematically destroyed. Relevant Official should take action to stop the excavations immediately, said the people of Odduchuddan area.

Waveddy and Kodythooky hills which are with traditional history are found in Odduchuddan area. There is an ancient Sivan Temple on Waveddy. It is recorded as a spot where the capital of the Tamil King who ruled over wanni located. Further Waveddy hill had been selected as a suitable spot for a Tourist Centre  by the Pradeshiya Sabai. It was considered that the Kodythooky hill also linked to historical incidents.

In this context, granite stones are being excavated from them on a daily basis and because of this the hills are getting disintegrated . Although there are several other places to excavate granite in Odduchuddan area, targeting these two hills for intensive excavation had made people to think that there is a hidden agenda of destroying these two hills.

If the hills are destroyed the ancient history of the Tamils also will be lost with them. No Tourist center could be created in a destroyed spot. Hence the officials should take immediate action, they insisted.
