Very high temperature behind the dying of fish in Nanthikadal: says NARA
It had been found out that the excessive heat that is prevailing in the area is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Thousands of fish in Nanthikadal.
This had been confirmed by the study undertaken by the National Marine Research and Development organization NARA
The excessive increase of temperature in the area is the reason for this, said the Head of the Environment research section, S.A.M. Asmy. Due to the continuing of the high temperature prevailing in Mulaitheevu area the water level near Vadduvagal has gone down resulting in the separation of sea and the lagoon. The amount of oxygen formed when sea water meets freshwater had made the temperature of the Lagoon water to go up. Debris washed down to the lagoon by the intermittent rain received in Mulaitheevu, and the chemical reactions caused by them also had killed the fishes.
The sand bar at Vadduvagal is preventing the sea from reaching the lagoon. It has been recommended to the Government that this and bar should be removed, he further said.
