Amparai High Courts condemns 2 policemen to death for killing a Tamil couple
Two police men who caused the death of a Tamil couple by firing on them were condemned to death by the Amparai High Courts. A riot occurred in Central Camp in Amparai on 23rd September 1997. Lot of Tamil people were killed on that day in shooting and other acts of Police personnel. But only one case was filed against only 3 policemen on 47 counts.
However 45 of the charges were not proved. The policemen were found guilty on two counts including causing the death of the said couple by shooting. One of the accused had already died and the other two police officers were condemned to death by hanging yesterday.
