CM issues deadline for Ministers to resign: Sampanthan and Mawai warn CM of drastic consequences
While the Northern Provincial Council CM CV Wigneswaran has insisted in the today’s sitting of the NPC, that the two Ministers against whom corruption charges are levelled to resign and other two Minister against whom inquiries are to be made to go on leave until the inquiries are completed, it has been learned that the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the TNA Era Sampanthan and the leader of the ITAK, Mawai Senthyrajah had exerted pressure over telephone yesterday that the CM should not insist like that.
While Sampanthan had threatened that if the CM takes the decision to sack all four ministers, consequences will be serious and that he will be confronting danger, Mawai had threatened in a tone suggesting ‘you will have to be taken off your post’, it is learnt.
Although, some media had suggested that, as the two Ministers against whom Corruption charges are levelled are very efficient Ministers and were backing the CM in the past , the CM may tow a soft line against them, some Members of the NPC have said that the CM has taken a correct decision with a neutral stance, with a view to not leave any room for corruption.
When the NPC today assembled to debate on the inquiry report on the Corruption Charges levelled against the NPC Ministers, the CM announced in the house that he is requesting Northern Province Minister of Agriculture P.Ainkaranesan and Northern Province Minister of Education T.Kurukularasa to resign from their posts before noon tomorrow.
Further, he said the inquiries will be held against the NP Minister of Transport, P.Deneeswaran and NP Minister of Health, P.Ssathiyalingam. They have to go on leave, and desist from their responsibilities. I will look after the responsibilities of their Ministries, said the CM in announcing his final decision.
