Sumanthiran : No Merger, No Federal system, Cannot topple the Govt. for trifle matters
The TNA MP and spokesman, Mathiaparanam Abraham Sumanthiran has said that the North – East merger is not possible at the moment and Federal System will not be mentioned openly and that the Government could not be toppled for these trifle reasons.
He stated as above in a Media Conference he held at his residence yesterday at around 10.00 a.m.
Interim report of the new constitution is delayed for several reasons. When it is published all doubts will be cleared.
There are two aspects of Federal system. Once the powers are devolved centre should not interfere in the powers devolved and the other is that, the powers granted cannot be revoked without the consent of the PC.
If these are there, no Federal board is needed. It is agreed that ‘Unitary State’ to be removed and United Country is substituted. Even though Unitary State is mentioned in Sinhala version a different definition is given in Tamil.
A Constitution without the support of the TNA cannot be Constitution. If a constitution which will say no should come, the TNA will withdraw its support to the Government. There is no situation as such now. We cannot topple this government, formed for greater purpose, for trifle reasons, he said.
