No Allocation…..Farmers renovate the Main Distribution Channel of Iranaimadu Tank

As the water level of Iranaimadhu Tank has dropped down, the Farmers of the Kilinochchi District have started to deepening of the main distribution Channel.

Using tractors, the farmers are deepening the Main Channel. This season the Yala season cultivation was limited and only 800 acre were cultivated. In this context, the level of the tank had dropped drastically and the farmers are encountering problems in irrigating their crops.

The cultivations are closed to being dried up due shortage of water. Therefore the Farmers under Iranai Madu Tank have got together and started the deepening and renovation of the main channel. Farmers and the Agricultural Department are engaged in this venture.

No allocation has been made by the Government for this venture. The farmers have engaged in this venture dedicatedly. This action has been taken to save the cultivation, said M.Sivamohan of the Iranaimadu  Farmers Association.
