India will Assist the struggles of Tamils for their Equal Rights and Self-respect, CM expresses hope
The CM, C.V.Wigneswaran has expressed his optimism that India will stand by to help Tamils in their continuous struggles to gain equal Rights and Self-respect in the areas where we live.
When Ghandiji fought through non-violence the rule of the “ Empire where the Sun never set” came to an end in 1947 in India, following which several countries in this region acquired their Independence.
Sri Lanka became independent in 1948. Within few years from independence conflict of ideas, disputes and confrontations occurred, which are continuing this day. Although these subsided from time to time, brunt of these were born fully by the Tamil people. The extension of 13th amendment to other Provinces made our Rights and Legacies were forgotten.
The Government which was ready to appoint Tamil Governor to Southern Provinces, was adamant in appointing a Sinhala Governor to the North and giving him overall power on everything and making our people live in oppression.
We remember thankfully that India gave refuge to our people when they were driven away by chauvinists, acknowledging our leaders and always endeavouring to make Tamil people live with their Rights.
We, the Tamils are struggling to live with Equal Rights and Self-respect. We have a strong conviction that India will stand by us in our struggles he said.
