Police stops clearing of Thuyillumillam (Hero’s Cemetery) at Aalkaddiveli

Clearing work was done yesterday at the Maveerar Thuyillumillam at Aalkaddiveli. However, the police who came to the spot prohibited the work which caused some friction among the people and the police. At the end, the people who were engaged in clearing the Cemetery lighted Camphor paid homage for about 5 minutes and left the cemetery. Former militants of Mannar District, relatives of Maveerars who had sacrificed their lives in the Liberation struggle engaged in Shramadana led by  Northern Province Democratic Militants at the Aalkaddiveli yesterday Morning .

Suddenly, policemen from Adampan Police station led by its OIC, and tried to prevent the clearing work. They asked the people to give up that work and leave the premises. The former militants adamantly said that they will not leave the area without completing the clearing work.

Those who have been buried here are people who have sacrificed their lives for Tamil people. It is our duty to remember them. We will not forgo our Democratic right at any time they said.

The police said no permission had been obtained to clear this area and nobody can engage in any work there. Finally police agreed for lighting sacrificial flames and paying homage for 5 minutes.

After lighting sacrificial flames and paying homage both faction left the Thuyillumillam. Later the Office of the Mannar District Youth Federation of the Democratic Militants’ party was declared open at Aalkaddivelli.
