Government take action to release lands of people in Kepapilavu and Army agrees
The army has consented to the action taken by the Government to release more than 111 acres of land to the people in Kepapulavu.
In a context, where the people of Kepapulavu struggling for more than 6 months, a meeting was held in the parliamentary complex presided by MP and the Vice Chairman of Committees, Selvam Adaikalanathan yesterday. High level officers of the Army and the people of Kepapulavu took part in this meeting. In this meeting the Army expressed their consent for the release of the lands, and Adaikalanathan said that the Government had approved this release.
A consensus had been reached in releasing the lands, following a Cabinet paper submitted by Minister D.M.Swamynathan. It was also agreed to hand over any structure put up by the Army to the people without demolishing them and if there are any damage caused to people’s properties, action to be taken to pay the damages.
In the context war being over 8 years ago the people are struggling for 6 months now demanding the release of their lands. Recently, they staged a protest rally in Colombo and handed over a memorandum to the President’s Secretariat.
Cabinet Spokesman, Kayanth Karunathileke announced in the media conference for announcing Cabinet decisions said that the Cabinet had approved the release of 111 acre lands in Kepepulavu and the army camps will be moved elsewhere. It has been also allocate necessary funds for this relocation.
