TPPs bow to continue their fasting until assurance from the AG Department
The Tamil Political Prisoners (TPPs) on fasting at Anuradhapura prison have announced that their fast will be continued till assurance is received from Attorney General Department, regarding not transferring their cases from Vavuniya.
The cases of TPPs, Rasathurai Thiruvarul (Jaffna – 40 years), Mathiyarasan Sulaksan (Karanavai – 30 years) and Ganeshan Tharshan(Navalapiddy – 26 years ) had been arrested in 2009 and their case is proceeding at the Vavuniya Courts from 2013. Although the case has reached a state of near conclusion, the AG Department was taking action to transfer.
If the case is transferred to other courts in the south we will be encountering language problem. Further ,the case will start from the beginning again. Hence our case should be held in Vavuniya and should not be transferred to any other court. The TPPs are on their 5th day fasting today demanding the above.
When the case of the said TPPs was taken up for trial yesterday the AG’s Department request one month time. But the AAL Anton Punithnayagam appearing on behalf of TPPs, argued that the TPPs are in Fasting and that they can’t wait long, trial should be held soon.
Accepting this the Judge said that the TPPs are in his charge and he has to answer if anything happens to them. Hence, the case should be expedited and hence the case will be taken up for trial continuously on 25th , 26th and 27th of September, and remanded the accused till 25th.
