Commemoration week commence in the North for Thileepan
Several commemoration were held in the North for “Thiyaga Theepam” Lt.Col. Thileepan, who sacrificed his life on the alter of the Liberation struggle of the Tamil people. Yesterday is starting day of the 30th Annual Commemoration week observed for Thileepan who trekked fast unto his heroic death without drinking even water.
At Nallur
Main event was held at spot where commenced his fast unto death on this day in 1987at around 10.10 a.m. The mother of child named after Thileepan, Vageeswary Ammah lighted the main sacrificial flame and started the observation of the Commemoration week.
Members of the Democratic militants party and the Tamil National People front garlanded the memorial and paid floral tributes. Democratic Militants Party and the Tamil National People Front jointly had organized the above event.
Mulaitheevu
The commemoration event was held in Puthukudiyiruppu under the aegis of Tamil National People Front , presided by the District Secretary of the Party, Thilaganathan Kinthujan. Homage was paid at the Public Relation office of NPC member T.Raviharan with lighting lamps and paying floral tributes.
Jaffna University
Commemoration event for Thjileepan was held at the Jaffna University Premises, , at around 10.20 a.m. Students lighted lamps and paid floral tributes.
Several people including the Lecturers and students participated in this Commemoration.
