North paralyzed by successful Hartal for Release of Tamil Political Prisoners

The Northern Province was paralyzed yesterday by the Full Hartal observed yesterday, demanding the release of TPPs and the protesting against the transferring of case of fasting TPPs.   The routine life was heavily affected. Tamil people got together in showing their united feeling by holding a successful Harthal. The Harthal was completed without any untoward incident.

Shops and markets were closed. Even small shops in rural areas were shut down. The services of the SLTB and private buses were not held anywhere in the Province. Students boycotted the school with government offices being deserted with people. Staff of nearly half officers were absent with officers of other offices not showing much interest in work. Although Banks and financial establishments operated with only a single door  open, people did not go there to execute their businesses. Even pavement hawkers closed their business.

The organizers said that around 40 organizations including political parties participated in this Hartal and the accompanying attention drawing protest in front of Governor’s Secretariat.
