Black flag protest against President Maithri

black flag  Demonstration against the President Maithripala Sirisena was held yesterday during his visit to Jaffna, demanding the release of TPPs. This struggle was organized by public Organizations and political parties. Security was tightened and STF, Army and police were massed near the venue and the rout to the venue.

In a context where three TPPs are engaged on their 20th day of the fasting, the President had undertaken his visit to Jaffna without giving any solution to their demand. Earlier the public Organizations had planned a protest against the president if he come here without providing solution to TPPs’ problem.

Although police had obtained an interim injunction against their protest, they had rallied near Jaffna University and then held their protest along KKS Road.

The media men who covered the demonstration were not allowed to cover President’s event. The demonstrators didn’t budge from their positions and the president on his way to venue stopped at the demonstrators and asked for their problem. He invited the demonstrators for an all faction dialogue and the demonstrators demanded an immediate solution. Following this the president went away to the event.

They raised slogans while the National Anthem was played but kept silent when Thamizh Thai Vanakkam was sung. After the President entered the venue the struggle was brought to an end.
