Jaffna University was paralyzed insisting the release of Tamil Political Prisoners

The students of the Jaffna University had paralyzed  all activities of the University, including learning and Administrative activities, insisting the fulfillment of the demands of the 3 TPPs fasting in Anuradhapura Prison for more than 1 month.  All entrances were locked and the undergraduates continued their protest in pouring rain.

The three TPPs have undertaken fasting protest demanding their case should not be transfered from Vavuniya. Several Public Organizations had held protest rallies in support of the TPPs.

In this context the university students commenced a fasting protest in support of the TPPs. The Governor intervened and took representatives of the students to meet the President. President promised to give a solution on last Wednesday and later extended the deadline to yesterday. As no solution was given yesterday the students had commenced their paralyzing protest yesterday.

In the mean time the N& E University students undertook a provincial wise signature campaign.

The government is giving false reasons all the time. That is why we commenced the paralyzing protest. If they don’t respect this protest and give a solution soon to the TPPs, while continuing our protest we will also get together with Civil and Public organizations and will undertake a  campaign paralyzing the State administrative mechanism, the students have warned.
