Demonstration by Un-employed graduates of East, Sampanthan’s residence also sieged
The Un- employed graduates of the Eastern province staged a demonstration yesterday demanding permanent appointments be granted to them. This demonstration was held in front of the Eastern Government Governor’s Secretariat.
The Assistant Secretary to the Government had informed the Demonstrators that the Governor is away in Colombo and that he will arrange for them to meet the Governor tomorrow (today). Following this the undergraduates had made a siege of the residence of the Leader of the Opposition, Era Sampanthan.
The Leader who came out after 2 hours, informed the demonstrator that as this is the election time, there is no authority to grant appointments now and that he will give an answer to them after 24th. Following this assurance the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
