Arnold selected as Mayor by party Leadership

Arnold has been selected as the Jaffna Mayor and Thurairasa Eesan as Deputy Mayor, by the TNA Leadership. Other members have accused that the leadership alone has taken this decision without consulting others. The TNA had won seats than the other parties. Hence the TNA has the duty of taking over JMC Administration.

On the basis of this Arnold and Eesan have been selected as Mayor and Dep. Mayor respectively said the spokesman for TNA, M.A.Sumanthiran. He also said that this decision was taken in a TNA discussion held at the ITAK office in Jaffna. However independent sources said ITAK cannot take over administration as they have got only 16 seats against 29 seats. As per LG laws either they have to prove their majority or Mayor selected by proposing and seconding in the house itself. It is evident that there is a dissidents among ITAK’s selected members. They have already written to the Leadership that they don’t want Arnold and to nominate Solomon Cyril as the Mayor.

In a context like this, it is likely that if another contender, say, for example V.Manivannan  coming into the arena, there are all the possibilities of the dissidents of ITAK voting for him. Hence, the situation at the JMC is in suspension or like the saying in Tamil goes, “Thirisangu Sorccam”
