UN Special Officer visits Muhamalai

Special Envoy of the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein  inspected the areas that are being demined in Mauhamalai in Kilinochchi District and had discussions with the Officers engaged in demining.

The District Secretary, Kilinochchi, N.Vethanayagan, Divisional Secretary, Pallai, Mrs Jeyarany Paramothayan, officials engaged in demining and several public participated in this visit.

I am inspecting the demined areas for last two days. I have had discussions with the Prime Minister, Ministers and officers. They all offered their good cooperation. I expect that the mines will be removed soon, said Mirenth Al Husein.

However, he did not meet the people of Indrapuram who were waiting to meet him. The Demining officer who came to the Indrapuram said to the people that efforts will be taken to release a part of the Indrapuram, before the end of this year.
