Refusing livelihood assistance to Former militants is against Human Rights, says the CM
The government not taking any action regarding providing Livelihood Assistance to former Militants is against human rights and a wrong activity. So said, the CM of the Northern Province.
A discussion was held yesterday between the CM and the State Minister of Education Radhakrishnan and the members of Hill Country People Front at the CM’s Secretariat . The CM said as above in answering the questions of media, following the above discussion.
Q: The Government has refused a cabinet paper by Minister Swamynathan for providing livelihood assistance to former Militants. What are your comments?
A: After declaring that Tigers had demised, refusing the livelihood to the former militants who had lost their limbs is against Human Rights. They should treat people as people.
I will say that it is wrong if due action is not taken for them. They say that we are betraying the Army men. Those of the Army who had committed offences should be pointed out we said. We never accused the whole Army. They don’t know which the truth is and which a lie is.
Q: When you took over the CM post, there were good opinions in the south as you were a justice. Now they say that you are spreading racism. What will you say about it?
A: There is an attitude in the South , ” we will continue to do what we like , Tamils should keep their mouth shut”. We are asking for our legitimate rights. We are asking for what had been grabbed from us. They think that it is against the Sinhala people. If we say that we want our rights, they say it is racism. Let us forget it and raise our voice for our rights, he said.
