Major General Kepitiwalanna accused of the disappearance of 24 youths at Navatkuli, promoted

Major General Thumintha Kepitiwalanna, who had been accused of the disappearance of 24 youths at Navatkuli has been promoted as the Director General of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, at the Army HQ.

He took over his duties at the office of the Director General of the Infantry in Colombo.

Major General Thumintha Kepitiwalanna served  earlier as the Commanding Officer of the 66Division.

When he was serving as the Officer Commanding of the Navatkuli Army Camp, he undertook a round up and search operation and arrested 24 Tamil youth. All 24 of them were made to disappear later.

Writs of Mandamus has been filed in Jaffna high Courts for three of the missing person and Major General Thumintha Kepitiwalanna has been cited as the 1st accused. The High Court has allowed the AG’s Department to appear on behalf of him. He has also been subjected to serious Human Rights violations.
