Close contact between Police and smugglers and criminals, says CM and give names to IGP
The NPC CM has accused that certain police officers have close contact with the criminals and smugglers. He has also said that if such policemen are not identified and action taken on them it will be difficult to control crimes in the North.
The Minister for Law and Order, Rangith Mathuma Bandara and the IGP, Poojitha Jayasunthara made a visit to Jaffna to study about the crimes that are occurring in the North , especially in the Jaffna District. They met the CM yesterday at his office in Kaithady.
Commenting on the meeting the CM said “ I have pointed out to them that narcotic smuggling is occurring continuously and crime rate has increased in the North and especially in Jaffna District. I pointed out to the IGP, Poojitha Jayasunthara that, in the current context Police officers are having close contacts with the criminals and smugglers and he accepted it.
I also handed over to him a list of police officers who are maintaining close contact with the criminals. The IGP promised to take action against them. When I pointed out to him that crimes against women and children are on the increase and action should be taken to control them, he replied that a shortage in Tamil women police is existing and he extended an invitation to Tamil Girls to join the Police force. 200 Tamil police men to be sent to the north. He promised to send them after training is over.
