Skull and leg bones recovered at Nayanmarkaddu excavations yesterday
The Excavation group at Nayanmarkaddu had announced that a human skull and leg bone had been from the site excavated at Nayanmarkaddu. They also said that the bones are in deteriorated stated and are not enough to determine whether the bones are male’s or female’s.
Under ground pipe net work is being laid now to bring Iranamadu to Jaffna. An underground reservoir is under construction at Nayanmarkaddu. On Friday, one side of the large pit dug for an underground Tank had collapsed exposing some bone fragments. This matter was informed to the police through the Gramasevaka and the judge Sinnathurai Satheestharan who visited the spot ordered that an excavation be done at the spot.
As per his instruction the JMO of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital U. Mayurathan undertook an excavation at the site with the participation police and University students. At around 3 ½ ‘ depth the back portion of a skull and bone fractions of knee area were discovered. Recovered bones could have been buried long ago,suggested the excavation team.
As few bones were recovered and they are in state of deterioration, determination of the sex of the bones is not possible, they said.
