Valvai Massacre commemorated
29th Annual Commemoration of the Valvai massacre was observed yesterday in Valveddithurai yesterday.
63 residents of Valveddithurai were cold bloodedly killed by the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF – Some refer to this as Indian Peace Killing Force) on 1989.08.02.
A few months before this day, Indian Brigadier Sangar Prasath called in the members of the people’s Committee roared as follows:
“ If the LTTE attack the Indian Army, I will your village to ground. I will shoot down your people in their hundreds. Like Sri Lanka being scorched in Ramayana, it will be burned again. Nobody can do anything to us. We are 4th largest Army in the world.”
In an unexpected confrontation between the IPKF and the LTTE, 6 Indian Soldiers were killed and 11 injured.
Thousands of Indian Soldiers came with murderous fury, from 3 camps around Valveddithurai swarmed on the village and unleashed sanguinary violence on the people of Valveddithurai under 3 days of curfew.
63 were killed in cold blood. Hundreds were injured. Medicine sans Frontiers volunteers who rushed into help the injured were not allowed in the village.
123 houses were completely destroyed.45 shops were burned.12 Fishing boats an 176 sets onf nets were burned.Money, jewellery and electrical equipment that were in the houses robed by the ‘4th largest Army in the world’. Unspecified number of women were raped.
Indian medias collaborated with the Indian Government in hiding the atrocities. However George Fernandus played an important role in bringing them to light and tearing off the mask of Rajive’s Government.
The Delhi correspondent of London financial Times, David Houseco published the whole episode in his paper kicking all the world into massive shock.
