Workers constructing fence around Col. Thileepan Memorial threatened

The employees of the Jaffna Municipal Council who were engaged in constructing a security Fence around Col. Thileeban’s Memorial have been threatened, it is reported.

Unidentified persons who came in civil clothing had introduced them to be from Intelligence unit and had went on to threaten the workers.

The Jaffna municipal council had undertaken the renovation of the memorial of Col. Thileepan and as a pre-preparation, a fence was being constructed around the memorial and workers constructing the fence had been threatened.

The persons who came in the civil had said that they are from Military Intelligence and had asked the workers whether they don’t like stay outside and whether they want to eat dhal and rice only?

Following this the JMC workers had refused to continue the work and had abandoned the work. Later workers were hired from out side and the work completed, it was learnt.
