Nayaaru Fishing Vadis of Tamil Fishermen burned down: Assets worth 5Millions go up in flames 

Assets worth Rs.5 Million had been destroyed in the act of arson of setting alight the vadies, boats and fishing gear of Tamil Fisher in Nayaaru. 8 vadis of Tamil Fishermen had been set alight, by arsonist at around 10 .30 p.m., day before yesterday.

Vadis had been burned down completely and the damage of Fishing equipment is valued at Rs.5 Million. Although the fishermen tried to complain to the police, police did not accept the complaint. They have not come to the spot till 10.30 am. On the following day. They have come there, only after a violent situation was about to happen and thereafter accepted the complaint. On the basis of this complaint 3 southern Fishermen were arrested only at 1.30 p.m. They were from Vennappuwa.

Police  went on attempting to shape up the matter, but due to pressures from politicians and the people recorded the statements of both sides.

Further people said a person from the south is engaged in illegal fishing with a fleet of 40 boats, from 2012 and that their fishing and livelihood being affected due to his illegal activities.

With them demanding from the police that he be expelled from Nayaaru, they have accepted it promised to take action, the people said.
