Poverty, sexual harassment and loan sharking replete in the North

The Group of Indian experts who are on a visit to the North and undertook research here, expressed concern yesterday that, poverty, sexual harassment and loan repayment problems are found in abundant in the North.  More than hundred thousand widows are found in the North and thirty five thousand in   the East.

The above group which completed their research here, returned to India on Monday. They met the journalists in Chennai Airport.  Professor Ramu Manivannan had expressed the above concern there.

A gang of people,  who manipulate the poverty of the women, give them loans and then harass them. Suicide rate has gone up because of this he said.

We saw children’s skeletons among skeletons recovered from Mannar mass grave. skeletons are being unearthed in paddy fields.  Such sightings gave us pain of mind, he said. The youth of the North has been misled my drugs smuggling and abuse of drugs, he further said.
