Excavations at Mass grave at Mannar halted for two weeks
In a context where the excavations for human remains at Mannar Sathosa premises were to be done for the 105th day, they have been stopped temporarily for two weeks.
The excavations at the Mass grave were undertaken for the 104th day on Friday and halted for the week end. Although it was expected that the excavations will be done yesterday, they were not held, it is learnt. Excavations have been halted for two weeks.
The excavations in Mannar are being done under the supervision of Mannar Magistrate, T. Saravanarajah and Special JMO, Chamintha Rajapakse.
As per the results of the excavations so far, more than 232 remains have been identified, more than 224 remains have been removed for storage and the tasks of identifying and removing are being done continuously
In this context the excavations are stopped without prior notice. No information on as to why the excavations are stopped has not been issued so far.
