Two youth shot, one dead, by police shooting on sword group, in Manipay

A youth was shot dead in Manipay , yesterday night. The police announced that in a shooting done on a group going with swords one person was killed.

This incident occurred at Manipay at around 8.40 p.m.

Police had earlier received an information that the Aava group had planned to make an attack in Manipay Inuvil Road. Hence the police divisions of Manipay, Kopay, Chunnakam and Kodikamam had jointly organized a special operation to arrest the Aava group. The members  of the Aava group came on motor cycles with swords.

Police tried to intercept and arrest them. When they tried to escape, shooting was done  on two persons fleeing in a Motor Cycle. One person was killed on the spot and another was arrested with injuries and admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

A ‘Kajendr ‘s  sword was recovered from the spot  and a search operation had been extended to arrest 4 persons who escaped from the spot.
