“ Ali Kumaran Kumar Anandan” Memorial Swimming Pool declared open by Minister Mangala Samaraweera

The International standard “ Ali Kumaran Kumar Anandan” Memorial Swimming Pool that has been constructed at Valveddiththurai was declared open by Minister Mangala Samaraweera, yesterday.

Speaking there, Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that a structure has been created for the development of North. Several projects for improving the Industrial Sector of North have been initiated through Budget , he said.

It is notable that, “ Ali Kumaran Kumar Anandan” is the holder of the following  7 Guinness world Records:

1. Swimming across Palk strait   twice – 1975.04. 18-20^th – 51 Hrs. 35 Min.
2. Non stop bicycle riding – 1979. 5.2 – 10^th – 187 Hrs. 28Min. – 1,487 Miles
3.  Non-stop Ball punching1979.12. 26 – 1980.01.01 – 136 Hrs. 28 Min.
4. Speed sit ups – 1980.05.15 –  165 times  in 2 Min.
5. Balancing on a single leg – 1980.05.15 – 17^th – 33 hrs.
6. High Kicks – 1980.12.31 – 1981.01.01 – 9100 kicks in 06 hours 51 min.
7. Treading in water – 1981 July 27 – 1981. 08.01 – 80 Hrs 33 Sec.

He had established another 07 world Records not recognized by Guinness.

He died while trying establish a Record, swimming across English Channel.
