Alien forces behind Kandy race riots, says CM, Wigneswaran
Although on an overall view, Kandy riots seem to a local racial tension, it could be observed that there were several alien forces behind it, which are not known or comprehendible to our people. The event of opening the Strategic Studies Centre in Trincomalee was held yesterday. He said so speaking in the event.
Speaking further he said, it is evident that every riot in Sri Lanka was staged to fulfil some purpose. It is evident through the experiences of the past that, the objective of these riots was the degeneration of the very existence or the growth of the minority people.
The race riots of 1958, 1977, 1983 were the activities to weaken the Tamil people in South economically and their existence a question mark. In a context where they are pushed back by the 30 years long war, we have to assume that the Kandy riots were the work of section of the majority race who are unable to bear the economical advancement of another minority race.
Many people have suggested that several political reasons were behind it. These incidents had been used to attain positions of certain politicians or safeguarding them or advancing them. To what level aa inferiority complex had rooted in the minds of our Sinhalese brothers and sisters is a matter for research. We believe that this centre will study these and get us a clear opinion
