Jaffna demonstrators remanded (Photos)

The 129 people arrested by the police yesterday for engaging in a demonstration in front of the Courts complex, Jaffna were produced in the Jaffna court today and remanded into custody.

The police produced them in three groupsbefore the court today. The first group consisted of 43 people, the second group consisted of 39 and the third group consisted of 47 people, have been remanded respectively until 3,4 and 5 June 2015.

They were arrested for burning tires and stoning the court building and police.

Police also captured more than 30 motorcycles, 80 bicycles, and 50 three-wheelers.

Security has been tightened around the Jaffna court building. The situation is calm but tension prevails in in the area.
