Alleged Mass-grave-well in Mannar ordered to be exhumed

An investigation report on 78 skeletal remains exhumed at Thiriketheeswaram from an area alleged to be a mass grave, was submitted to courts yesterday. Judge A.G.Alexrajah,court ordered that a well in the said area, alleged to be a mass grave be exhumed for 4 days from the 4th of March.

Human remains were when the said area was excavated for laying water pipes on 2013 December 20th and on subsequent 32  excavations  82 human skeletal remains were found. The well to be exhumed is located near former site and was identified by the representatives of missing persons also the government side was rejecting the existence of a well in the said area.

Following the court being informed that the said are is waterlogged by the Police, the judge ordered that a bund constructed around the well and the water drained and the area to be allowed dry before the exhumation is done on the 4th.

Attorneys at law, G.Rajakulendram, V.S.Niranjan, were present on behalf of the missing persons while,M.Sapurdeen and Primus siraywa appeared on behalf on Mannar Lawyers Association.
