Amparai muslims rise up against the Vihare at Mayakalmalai

Several protest rallies were held in several parts Amparai against the erection of Buddhist statue at Mayakalimalai in  Manikamadu, Irakkamam of Amparai and the attempt to construct a vihare there.

No students attended schools and all shops put up their shutters and streets were filled with black flags. Considerable number of Muslim women undertook fasting protest from inside their homes. The protests went on amidst much police stringency.

Muslim people, Politicians and civil Organizations took part in these struggles held at Kalmunai, Sainthamaruthu, Maruthamunai, Akkaraipattu, Sammanthurai and  Irrakkamam.

The Muslim people held their protest in front of their respective Mosque after Jummah worship, holding placards with slogans, then proceed to their respective District Secretary Offices and handed over Memorandum to the District Secretaries. Following were some slogans carried in the protests:

*  Don’t rob the lands of the Muslims.

*  Don’t create racial Tensions

* Control the racists who disturb peace.

* Don’t touch Muslim.

* President! is this Good Governance.

*We are the guardians of Mayakallimalai.

* Don’t disgrace the court.
