Archaeological Department’s attempt to expropriate ancient Tamil sites continues – Masiyapiddy Amman temple also targeted

A tense situation was created at Masiyapiddy Amman Temple, by the Archaeological Department officials’ ground work for undertaking research at two ancient Hindu Temples within the area under the Vali South West Pradeshiya Sabah.

The officials inspected the Masiyapiddy Kannakai  Amman Kovil Theerththakerny and the Kulakkarai Pillaiyar Kovil premises.

On being informed by the area people about this, MP, Siththarthan, former member of NPC, P.Kajatheepan and member of Pradeshiya Sabah, S. Anushan visited the area immediately and observed the happenings.

There are ancient stories prevailing in the area to the effect that this temple pond was constructed during the period of king Rajaraja Cholan and the holy water sent by him from India was released into the pond.

Under the guise of archaeological research, the Department of Archaeology is actively involved in expropriating the historical sites of the Tamil people in the North and East and paving the way for the construction of Buddhist temples.

The Department of archaeology has already taken preliminary steps in the last few weeks in the areas of Kurundurumalai in Mullaithivu, Nilavarai in Jaffna and Uruthrapuram Shiva Temple in Kilinochchi to do archaeological excavations. These efforts are being carried out under the auspices of the military.
