Ariyalai Shooting – Police Inquiries in another angle

The inquiries in the Ariyalai shooting case where a youth was shot dead by assailants who came in a motor cycle had been also channeled into an angle, as to whether a police officer was the intended victim. Until the assailant is identified and arrested nothing could be conclusively said, said the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, NP, Roshan Fernando.

In a shooting incident that occurred on last Sunday a youth was killed and no suspect has been arrested . Three special police teams are inquiring about the Murder. Meanwhile the relatives have alleged that intelligence operatives had committed the murder.  The Police faction has neither accepted this theory nor rejected it.

Elaborating further SDIG, Roshan said, that security has been provided at Ariyali to prevent sand smuggling. An SI and another policeman in civil had taken lunch for policemen on duty and a suspicion had been raised as to whether they were the intended victims. The assailants  could have mistaken the youth for them. Until such time the assailants are identified, inquiries will be undertaken in several directions.
